World AIDS Day Celebration

Powerhouse Museum

Thursday 1st December 2016

Mother CPRII, Novice Sister Catheter and Saint Webdog 4.0 attended the Positive Living celebration of World’s AIDS Day at the Powerhouse Museum this evening. The gathered faithful enjoyed Mother’s sometimes humorous recollections of a period of darker times of our history and the part the Sister’s played during those times. A blessing was shared with all and the Sydney Gay & Lesbian choir entertained.

A thought provoking art installation by Sebastian Zagarella which saw an image of the HIV virus applied to mundane domestic objects. The installation sets out to “normalise what living with the virus is in 2016 and allows conversations around silence and stigma and the everyday nature of living with HIV.” A display of two pieces of the original AIDS quilt and a slide show comprising images of other sections of the quilt served as somewhat solemn and poignant reminders of those whose lives were taken from our community.
