Blessing of the Mardi Gras Workshop

Saturday 7th February 2026

And thus it came to pass that the Sisters ventured forth, setting sail in Sister Verandah’s noble four wheeled carriage toward the Mardi Gras workshop. After bravely confronting red lights, Saturday morning traffic, and the occasional vehicular trial of faith, Sisters Salomé, Ophelia, Verandah and Brother Pastor Al Dente arrived only three or four moments beyond fashionably late.

The gathered faithful were already hard at work, volunteers bent over floats and costumes, brushes flying, sequins sparkling, and board members hovering with purpose. The Sisters and Brother made their slightly extended entrance to warm anticipation, drifting through the space with holy curiosity. Not a single paint fume went unappreciated. Not a single skimpy ensemble escaped inspection. Every glittered limb and power tool was acknowledged in the name of joyous mischief.

When the moment arrived, centre stage was claimed. Sister Salomé took the lead with a blessing carefully prepared for the occasion, his words rising above the hum of drills and devotion. Novice Sister Verandah, sacred vessel in hand, dispensed the Great Mother Dingo’s most sacred offering, sprinkling and splashing tools, sponsors, sequins, volunteers, and the occasional unsuspecting bystander with moist and merry benediction.

Laughter rose. Spirits lifted. Paint continued to dry under a thin sheen of holiness.

After the blessing, the Sisters lingered among the faithful and board members alike, sharing stories and solidarity. Sister Salomé offered timely words of wisdom for troubled times, grounding the glitter in purpose and reminding all present why the work matters.

And so, with blessings bestowed and fumes thoroughly inhaled, the Sisters once again set sail toward the sunset and a late afternoon Nuncheon at Sister Eileen’s Inner West convent, their mission of joy, mischief and ministry gloriously intact.
