Novice Sister Mary Arse Licked And Old Lace is another Sister, who in recent years made an 'escape from the city', and now resides in Northern New South Wales.
Sister is still an avid member and supporter of the Sydney House and makes regular pilgrimages to Sydney, especially during the Mardi Gras Festivals.
I came to join the order through my partner at the time Sister Rowena Keeper of the Holy Doyley. I joined in 1990 and was fascinated with people’s interaction with the sisters. Pre AIDS there seemed to be around 80% of people who “just didn’t get it” and would look at you as an alien from outer space. 10% had very strong hate views and would either argue or spit at you to express their anger. The other 10% loved you and I was amazed at the number of these adoring fans who wanted to fuck a nun? But that’s another story.
When AIDS was in full swing, again I was amazed at the shift in people’s reaction to us. A lot more hate and threats that we would die for being who we were. Now there’s a lot more division and extremist views and I find it fascinating that blokes in habits can generate such reactions. I’ve always found it fascinating that human nature is exposed by such a simple act.
My name is Sister Mary Arse Licked and Old Lace and was derived from the movie “Arsenic & Old Lace” a 30’s classic with Gary Grant. It’s about little old ladies who poison lonely men in an act of kindness. Cary Grant was a raging queen who was just adorable and had a long relationship with Randolph Scott. However of course it had to be kept hidden and secret, love was not allowed to be expressed. In many movies Grant could get a scene in which would show him being flamboyantly gay, an act of defiance.
In some way I see the sisters in a similar way. We are concealed and hidden by our attire and each of us has secrets which are not always expressed to the public. We love passionately, deeply and yet the expectation by many is that this should be kept secret.
Well I say Fuck That! Oh and by the way I am an excellent arse licker, an ability I’m extremely proud of. My other claim to fame is to my knowledge I believe I am the longest serving novice of any order of nuns in the world.
